Hackers have deleted more than 6,500 sites being held on a popular dark web server.
The dark web server was called Daniel’s Hosting and is hosted by Administrator Daniel Winzen. The site housed many web pages that their makers did not want published on the wider web.
“Around 6,500 hidden services were hosted on the server. There is no way to recover from this breach, all data is gone.” wrote Mr. Winzen in a message put on the welcome page of the web companion to the site.
These web pages were hidden on a Tor Server. A Tor server has a way of organizing web – like pages so it is harder to work out where the information is located or whom is running them. It also lets people browse in a way that hides their location as well as their identity.
Mr. Winzen says he still does not know how someone deleted all of the lost pages, which included; fan fiction, political tracts, philosophy books, porn, hacked files, videos, web marketplaces, and crypto-cash forums, as well as other things.
He also has stated that it will be back up and running in December, new and improved.
